About

Hello, I am Maren Holloway.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist in London, Ontario. Before opening this practice in 2019, I spent many years in community mental health and hospital outpatient programs, mostly with adults working through anxiety, depression, and the long tail of difficult events. That work shaped how I practise now: fewer worksheets, more room to think, and practical tools for the hard stretches.

Sessions with me are conversational and unhurried. Some weeks we look closely at a pattern that keeps repeating; other weeks we work on getting through the next few days. You set the pace and the direction. I bring structure, honesty, and training in approaches that have good evidence behind them.

Education and credentials

  • Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology
  • Registered Psychotherapist, College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
  • Additional training in emotionally focused individual therapy and grief work

How I work

  • Person-centred: you are the expert on your own life
  • Practical: skills you can use between sessions
  • Collaborative: we check what is working and change what is not
  • Plain language, always; no jargon unless you want it

Areas of focus

What people bring to sessions

You do not need a diagnosis or a tidy explanation to start. These are the concerns I work with most, and many people come with more than one.

  • Anxiety and worry

Racing thoughts, a mind that will not settle at night, or a constant sense that something is about to go wrong.

  • Low mood and burnout

Feeling flat, tired in a way sleep does not fix, or going through the motions without much behind them.

  • Stress at work

Long hours, a role that has grown past you, or a workplace that leaves you drained before the day starts.

  • Grief and loss

The death of someone close, the end of a relationship, or a loss other people do not seem to count.

  • Life transitions

A move, a diagnosis, a new baby, a retirement, or a change you did not choose and are still absorbing.

  • Relationships and boundaries

Patterns that keep repeating with partners, family, or friends, and the work of saying what you need.

Questions

Things people often ask

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact me directly, and you do not need a doctor's referral to start therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. Some extended health plans do ask for one before they reimburse, so it is worth checking yours.

Is therapy covered by OHIP or my insurance?

OHIP does not cover psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist. Many extended health plans do, under 'psychotherapist' or 'registered psychotherapist'. You pay after each session and I give you a receipt to submit to your plan.

What happens in the first session?

Mostly talking, at whatever pace suits you. I will ask what brought you in and what you are hoping for, explain how confidentiality works, and answer your questions. You do not need to prepare anything. .

In person or online, which is better?

Both work well, and you can switch between them. Some people prefer the separation of coming to the office; others find it easier to talk from home. We can try one and change if it is not right.

How long will I need to come?

It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a few months around a specific problem; others stay longer. We review how it is going as we go, and stopping is always your call.

Is what I tell you confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between us, with a few exceptions that the law requires, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. I explain these in plain language in your first session so there are no surprises.
